Lifestyle
Liv Tyler is a well-known actress who has continuously appeared on screens for over 20 years. At 14, she started modeling before deciding to pursue an acting career. After making her feature film debut in Bruce Beresford’s Quiet Fall, James Mangold, a budding filmmaker (who would later go on to helm such hits as Girl, Interrupted, Walk the Line, and Logan), cast her in his debut picture Heavy, a critical and financial success that later attained cult status. Her breakthrough to prominence came at eighteen with the main role in Bernardo Bertolucci’s Stealing Beauty, followed by another independent cult smash, Empire Records.
In Tom Hanks’ wildly popular ode to the glory years of 1960s rock ‘n’ roll, That Thing You Do!, Liv next appeared. Being the daughter of a rock ‘n’ roll background, this was a movie whose subject was equally close to Liv’s heart. Then came Michael Bay’s high-octane action film Armageddon, in which he co-starred with Bruce Willis, Ben Affleck, and Steve Buscemi. Buscemi would subsequently go on to direct Liv in Lonesome Jim.
Director Robert Altman first noticed Liv in the film Stealing Beauty. He cast her in Cookie’s Fortune and Dr. T and the Women, praising her as “extremely serious, very prepared, and very professional…I am crazy about her.” Between working for Altman, Liv played alongside Ralph Fiennes in Onegin, which his sister Martha directed and was based on the venerable novel by Alexander Pushkin. “We evaluated a lot of actresses, but Liv has an acute awareness of emotional truth that’s not faked or projected, but just is,” stated Ralph Fiennes of Liv. Liv played the famed ‘Arwen’ character in The Lord of the Rings trilogy, which included The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers, and The Return of the King, in 2001.
Liv is a multi-genre actor who continually defies categorization. She is not limited by the roles she chooses and is guided, above all else, by what instinctively and emotionally moves her. Tom Hanks has said of her, “It’s tough to say no to whatever comes up, but she’s saying no to all the right things.” In addition to her acting profession, Liv has built a decade-long association with Givenchy as the spokesperson for their fragrance and cosmetics line. Since Liv is “a modern woman in every sense, a mother and actress with a fierce sense of femininity that women worldwide can connect to,” she is also a brand ambassador for Triumph underwear. In addition, she created a capsule collection highlighting the company’s devotion to body confidence.
Liv and Belstaff previously worked together on creative projects that produced two capsule collections for the renowned British heritage brand. Moreover, Liv has been the spokesperson for major international businesses, such as Visa and Pantene.
On the television program Who Do You Think You Are? (2010), Liv learned that her great-great-great-great-grandfather, Robert J. Elliott, was of half or part African-American descent in addition to having an eighth Italian and an eighth Ukrainian ancestry. He wed Elizabeth “Betsey”/”Betsy” Rollins, an ancestor of hers who was born in England, in New York.
She has never studied acting.
When she started acting, she was named Liv Taylor by movie critics and the media because she reminded people of Elizabeth Taylor with her beautiful blue eyes and black hair. She was chosen by People magazine as one of the 50 Most Beautiful People in the World in 1997. In addition, she was voted the 6th Sexiest Female Movie Star in the Australian Empire Magazine in September 2002.
She has contributed to the Women’s Cancer Research Fund since 2004 to promote the creative study, instruction, and outreach toward the creation of improved methods for the early detection, treatment, and prevention of all malignancies affecting women. With her mother, Bebe Buell, and grandma Dorothea Johnson, Tyler participated in the debut of the Emergen-C Pink energy drink in October 2007 as part of a Breast Cancer Awareness Month celebration.
