Richard Mofe-Damijo Biography

Born in Nigeria on July 6, 1961, Richard Eyimofe Evans Mofe-Damijo, better known by his stage as RMD is an actor, writer, producer, lawyer, and former journalist. In 2009, he also served as the Delta State Commissioner for Culture and Tourism. He won the Best Actor in a Leading Role prize at the 2005 Africa Movie Academy Awards. At the 12th Africa Movie Academy Awards in 2016, he was given a Lifetime Achievement Award.

Mofe-Damijo was born in the Aladja community of Delta State’s Udu Kingdom. After graduating from the university, Mofe-Damijo appeared in the soap opera Ripples, but he became more well-known for his role as the evil Segun Kadiri in the competing drama Checkmate. He worked as a journalist for Concord Newspapers Metro Magazine and Quality before. The first movie for which he was given a writer/producer credit was Out of Bounds.

Mr. and Mrs. Mofe-Damijo welcomed RMD into the world in 1961. The actor’s mother was a trader before she passed away, while the Nigerian Ports Authority employed his father in Warri till he passed away in 1990. Before their deaths, both of his parents had diabetes and hypertension. In an interview to commemorate his 60th birthday, he mentioned that his mother died at 59, and his father died when he was either 57 or 58.
