Film Director, Editi Effiong Announces Richard Mofe-Damijo As The Chairman of Anakle Films At This Year’s AFRIFF

Veteran Nollywood actor, Richard Mofe-Damijo, has been chosen Chairman of the Board of Directors at Anakle Films, the production company behind the massively successful Nollywood film “The Black Book” on Netflix. Editi Effiong, the director of “The Black Book” and creator of Anakle Films, confirmed the statement during the 12th Africa International Film Festival (AFRIFF).

The actor joins Anakle Films as Chairman of the Board of Directors following the company’s acquisition of RMD Productions Limited. With the acquisition, a schedule was drawn up of fourteen production projects for Anakle Films, encompassing both film and television series.

These projects span a variety of genres, including thrillers and dramas, with the first one on course to begin production in the first quarter of 2024. However, apart from “The Black Book,” Anakle Films has produced three other films: “Fishbone” (2020), “The Set Up” (2019), and “Up North” (2018).

“The Black Book” is a fictional thriller that delves into Nigeria’s turbulent past, including political turmoil, drug trafficking, and military rule, through the eyes of a former hitman seeking justice. It debuted on Netflix on Friday, September 22, 2023. Upon debut, the film rose to number one on the top global Netflix movies, spending some time there before getting dethroned.

The film also happens to be Editi Effiong’s directorial debut, which, according to his appreciation tweet, had him totally ecstatic to see how locally accepted and internationally successful the film became.
