On 30 Jun, Lil Uzi Vert returned to the music world after a three-year hiatus with his new album, Pink Tape. A sprawling opus consisting of 26 tracks, the album showcases the artist’s evolution since the release of his breakthrough hit, “XO TOUR Llif3.” Featuring guest appearances from Nicki Minaj, Travis Scott, Don Toliver, and other contemporary artists, Pink Tape sees Uzi exploring various sonic landscapes and experimenting with different styles. Perhaps the most surprising aspect of the album is the collaboration with Bring Me The Horizon on the song “Werewolf,” which finds Uzi delving into the world of rock music. The album’s standout track, “Just Wanna Rock,” gained significant popularity earlier this year and even managed to crack the top 10 on the Hot 100 chart in February. Overall, Pink Tape is a testament to Lil Uzi Vert’s growth as an artist and a surefire hit with fans old and new.

In the album artwork, a semi-patriotic theme is portrayed. The central figure, Uzi, is standing in front of a U.S. flag draped in a unique shade of pink, which deviates from the traditional red, white, and blue colour scheme. Uzi’s jacket matches the colour of the flag, and their signature spiked hair is prominently featured in the artwork. Overall, the painting presents a fresh and modern interpretation of patriotism that is eye-catching and thought-provoking.

Tracks And Features

The musical experience begins with 26 tracks, with the opening song “Flooded The Face”. Without any hesitation, Uzi dives right into the song, delivering it with the same energy as if he had never been away. The lyrics of this track delve into a wide range of themes, including sexual tension, drug use, romance, the hustle, and camaraderie. The hardcore hip-hop beats accompanying the lyrics give the song an edgy and captivating feel, making it the perfect introduction to the entire collection of tracks.

With these first two tracks (“Flooded The Face” and “Suicide Doors”), Uzi merely intended to annoy homophobes. Uzi ends this one by yelling, “Skirts off.”

On the track “Aye,” Travis Scott and Lil Uzi Vert team up for a dynamic collaboration. Throughout the song, Uzi opens up about the criticism he often receives, acknowledging how it can make him feel singled out despite his attempts to brush it off. He remains grateful for his success, recognizing that he has been blessed with many opportunities. He and Scott speak to their unyielding determination and hard work, using their verses and hooks to showcase their confidence and natural charisma. As a listener, one can’t help but be captivated by the energy and synergy between these talented artists.

The song “Endless Fashion” features Nicky “Queen Radio” Minaj. The duo delivers their verses with confidence and flair, alluding to the world of high fashion and luxurious living. They address their critics and emphasize their continuous growth, dismissing any negativity. Despite their humble beginnings in the hood, they appreciate the fashion they now enjoy.

Within the song “Mama, I’m Sorry,” Uzi incorporates a melody reminiscent of Gotye’s “Someone I Used to Know.” In this particular track, he asks for forgiveness from his mother and acknowledges his addiction to drugs and the hardships he’s faced. Uzi takes pride in his street credibility, which is evident to those who listen to his music. He is serious about his involvement in the street life.

The musical masterpiece known as “WereWolf” is a testament to the harmonious collaboration between Bring Me The Horizon and Uzi, two Metal/Rock bands that have come together to create an awe-inspiring musical experience. This song delves into the depths of human emotion, exploring themes of fear, inner turmoil, and the triumph of the human spirit over adversity. This track embodies the essence of rock music through its masterful percussion and sublime guitar chords. Fans of Bring Me The Horizon and Uzi are sure to be enamoured by this remarkable collaboration, showcasing the best of both bands. The Horizon and Uzi will undoubtedly appreciate this collaboration.

Don Toliver’s smooth vocals take centre stage in the song “Patience,” which delves into the complex dynamic of relationships and the crucial role that patience plays in them. The track touches on various themes through its poignant lyrics, including drug use, romance, tolerance, infidelity, and love. The duo behind the song also ponders the concept of true love and expresses their doubts about whether it truly exists. With its powerful message and emotional resonance, “Patience” is a must-listen for anyone who has ever struggled with the ups and downs of love.

Towards the end of the album, “The End” features Babymetal. Fans can enjoy Uzi’s collaboration on another Metal Rock track with a Pop interlude. These tracks conclude the central part of the album, followed by three bonus tracks – “Zoom,” “Of Course,” and “Shardai”. Uzi’s performance in “Shardai” is exceptional, as he confidently expresses his innermost thoughts, confessing to feeling scared about his evolving persona as he continues to pursue his dreams.
