On May 10, 1995, Aya Danioko was born in Bamako, Mali. She hails from a line of griots, oral poets, praise singers, and storytellers in West Africa. The oldest of five siblings, she is. Her family immigrated to France when she was a young girl, settling in the Paris suburb of Aulnay-sous-Bois. She attended La Courneuve to study fashion. She adopted the stage name Nakamura after the Hiro Nakamura character from the 2006–2010 NBC science fiction drama series “Heroes.”

She adopted the surname Nakamura when she started her musical career in honour of the American television series Heroes’ Hiro Nakamura. She began earning subscribers to her YouTube page with early songs like “Karma” and “J’ai mal,” but it was her song “Brisé” that amassed millions of listens. Fans responded favourably to Nakamura’s warm fusion of R&B, pop, and Afrobeat rhythms, and she quickly signed with Warner Music France, which issued her debut album, Journal Intime, in 2017. The songs “Karma” and “J’ai mal” that Nakamura released online helped her build a fan base.
Her manager and producer was a longtime buddy named Dembo Camara.
