Rita Sahatçiu Ora, professionally known as Rita Ora, is a British singer, songwriter, and actress. In February 2022, Ora rose to prominence when she featured on DJ Fresh’s single, “Hot Right Now.” The song hit reached number one in the UK. In August 2012, she released her debut studio album, “Ora.” The album debuted at number one in the United Kingdom. It housed the singles “R.I.P.” and “How We Do (Party),” both of which hit number one in the UK. In the same year, she was the artist with the most number-one singles on the UK Singles Chart. She charted three singles at the top spot.

In November 2018, Rita Ora’s second studio album, Phoenix, was released. The album’s singles were all successful in the UK. The lead single, “Your Song,” peaked within the top ten, while the subsequent singles, “Anywhere” and “Let You Love Me,” charted within the top five. Ora became the first British female solo artist to have thirteen top ten songs in the United Kingdom when “Let You Love Me” was released. In July 2023, she released her third studio album, “You & I.” The album was preceded by the three singles, “You Only Love Me,” “Praising You” (featuring Fatboy Slim), and “Don’t Think Twice.”

Ora was born in Pristina, modern-day Kosovo. In 2015, she was named an Honorary Ambassador of Kosovo.

Family

Rita’s family lived in Pristina, SFR, Yugoslavia (modern-day Kosovo), when she was born. Ora’s family left Kosovo in 1991 for political reasons. This resulted from the persecution of Albanians initiated with the disintegration of Yugoslavia. They relocated to London, England, when Ora was a baby, causing her to grow up in Notting Hill, in West London.

Ora’s maternal grandfather, Osman Bajraktari, was the Albanian consul to Russia. It was part of the Soviet Union at the time. Her paternal grandfather, Besim Sahatçiu, was a film and theatre director.

Parents

Rita Sahatçiu was born to Albanian parents. Ora was born with the name Sahatçiu. According to Wikipedia, it is a surname derived from the Turkish word saatçi, which means ‘watchmaker’. The name Ora was later added by her parents as the family surname so it could be easily pronounced. The name ‘ora’ means ‘time’ in Albanian. Her mother is Catholic, and her father is a nominal Muslim.
