With a Puerto Rican and Cuban heritage, he grew up in the Forest Houses, a public housing project in Morrisania. During the early 1990s, he became a part of the D.I.T.C. (Diggin In The Crates crew) and signed a contract with Relativity Records. Using the stage name “Fat Joe da Gangsta,” he released his debut album, “Represent,” in 1993.
