Best Of Wizkid: 10 Must-have Wizkid Songs

When you say Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun, some people would just smile and look at you, expecting an explanation of who you are referring to. But then, mention Wizkid and recognition floods them immediately. That is because the Nigerian singer is more famous by his adopted stage name than by his given name.

Born on July 16, 1990, Wizkid stands as an example of what it means to have a dream and to pursue the same. As a kid growing up in the backwater called Surulerre, he already had a dream about being a musician. That was the singular motivation behind his creating a group called the Glorious Five.

Not much is heard about that group today. And except for Wizkid, the other members never got to make it internationally as musicians. For whatever reason, fate had other plans for Wizkid. He stuck to music and gained fame and fortune soon after.

Since popping into the music scene, the songster has released several songs and albums, solidifying his position in the music industry. Of all the songs he has released to date, some stand out more than others. In this post, we bring you what we consider 10 Must-have Wizkid Songs.

while we admit that opinions are subjective, we are still confident that you would love the number on our list – given in no particular order. Let’s roll, shall we?

1.. Essence Ft. Tems

It is unclear how the songster came up with the title of that song, but “Essence,” a collaborative song with compatriot Tems, will make the essential Wizkid playlist any day. This number is part of the singer’s “Made in Lagos” album and also one of the agreeable numbers from the project

2. Jah Bless Me

You are probably puzzled by the inclusion of this song because it is not an official release. But truth be told, this number is partly the summation of Wizkid’s beliefs and life. He was a nobody at some point but wanted to be blessed by God. The dream has since been materialised, and he is grateful enough to always acknowledged the evidence of divine preferment in the story of his rise.

And now, having made it to the top, he is empowered to comment about issues in society – indirectly becoming a voice for those who are voiceless.

From listening to this song, as well as the massive growth Wizkid has experienced in his career, you just might ignite your faith for a similar leap. Jah can bless you.

3. Ojuelegba

OJuelegba is another must-have Wizkid song. It is an early number from the songster and one which partly propelled his career. As far as towns and cities go, Ojuelegba is a backwater of sorts. But it is her immortalised because it is part of the story of Ayo Balogun.

4. Daddy Yo

He might not be your daddy, but Wizkid’s “Daddy Yo” tune will make good company any day. It was released around the period he signed a major record label deal with RCA Records. The years might have passed by this track retains its power and appeal.

5. Soco

“Soco,” a collaborative tune from the StarBoy family, had Spotless, Ceeza Milli, Terri, and Wizkid on it. The song was a big hit on release and it trended on social media for a while. The years have passed, all right, but the number has managed to retain its appeal. It is worth checking out.

6. Come Closer

Here, if you please, is one instance when it might be said that a song has the potential to make you come closer – get the party started and ensure you have a wonderful time. For this song, the “Fever” crooner tapped the vocal resources of his Canadian associate. the result is a song that actually makes you “come closer.”

7. Final (Baba Nla)

Released in 2015 before Wizkid became the massive global success that he is today, this number actually presaged the singer’s success. It was a big win with fans back then, and it retains its appeal many years later. The number was produced by Legendury Beats – a name that cannot be missed anywhere the complete Wizkid story is told.

8. Soweto Baby

This is not exactly a Wizkid number in the sense that he was not the lead singer, only a guest on DJ Maphorisa’s offering, which had DJ Buckz as the other guest. Anyway, the number is a scorcher regardless and worthy of a place on this list.

9. Energy (Stay Far Away)

The track “Energy (Stay Far Away)” is a joint offering by Wizkid and the British grime artist Skepta. And truth be told, they actually hit it off on this one. The result markedly contrasts with the title – a number you cannot stay far away from.

10. Show You The Money

The songster is here to “Show You The Money,” but are you prepared to help yourself to his stash? Of course, you don’t get physical cash – just lashings of good vibes. Well, it’s time to show you the money below. Lol.
