Australia’s ‘Splendour In The Grass’ Festival Cancelled

Australia’s music lovers were looking forward to another unforgettable and exciting edition of the ‘Splendour in the Grass’ festival. However, their hopes were dashed when the festival’s organizers announced the cancellation of the much-anticipated event, which was scheduled for July 19–21. Despite the recent announcement of the star-studded line-up, including headliners like Kylie Minogue and Future, the festival failed to attract enough ticket sales. This is not the first time the festival has faced such challenges, as last year’s edition also experienced a 30% drop in ticket sales compared to the previous year.

The festival has confirmed the cancellation and posted a statement on social media.

“With a heavy heart, we’re announcing the cancellation of Splendour In The Grass 2024, originally scheduled from Friday 19 July to Sunday 21 July in Ngarindjin/North Byron Parklands.”

“We know there were many fans excited for this year’s line-up and all the great artists planning to join us, but due to unexpected events, we’ll be taking the year off.”

The festival’s co-founders, Jessica Ducrou and Paul Piticco, confirmed that Moshtix would process refunds immediately.

“We’re heartbroken to be missing a year especially after more than two decades in operation. This festival has always been a huge community effort, and we’d like to thank everyone for their support and overall faith. We hope to be back in the future.”

This marks the second major festival to be cancelled this year, following Groovin The Moo, which was cancelled due to low ticket sales. The touring festival was due to take place this April, with an impressive line-up of famous artists and bands, including Alison Wonderland, Mura Masa, Wu-Tang Clan’s GZA, DMA’s, King Stingray, and The Kooks, among others. The cancellation of both Groovin The Moo and Splendour in the Grass adds to a series of festival cancellations that have occurred in recent years, with Falls Festival also announcing last year that it would not return for the 2023–2024 season. The festival organizers cited the need to “rest, recover, and recalibrate.”

Indeed, this news has come as a significant disappointment to music lovers across the country who had been eagerly looking forward to these events.
