Rema’s ‘Burning Church’ Necklace Causes Stir As Ethiopia Show Is Cancelled
Multiple sources have reported that the highly anticipated performance of renowned Nigerian artist Rema in Ethiopia has been cancelled. The event was initially scheduled for September 9, 2023, at the Sheraton Hotel in Addis Ababa. However, the hotel’s management ultimately cancelled the show due to religious considerations.
Rema’s concert in Ethiopia was cancelled due to the controversy surrounding his recently unveiled necklace. The necklace depicted an image of a church burning upside down and inverted crosses, which offended the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo church and the people of Ethiopia. Rema was accused of being a devil worshipper, leading to the cancellation of his show by the hotel. Recently, an Ethiopian lady was a guest on Nigerian media personality Daddy Freeze’s Instagram live show, where she spoke about the cancelled concert.
Following concerns raised by some individuals that Rema’s necklace indicated devil worship, a press statement was released. The news quickly spread through social media, ultimately leading to the cancellation of Rema’s Ethiopian concert. The response from Nigerians was mixed, with some individuals noting that the imagery on his necklace may have been excessive.

“They made a statement, like a press release in Ethiopia about Rema. Yes, you can imagine, it’s a very big deal. “They’re basically saying he is worshipping the devil because of what he has on his neck. And to be honest, I never thought of it myself. And there’s more to it; to be honest.”
