Beyonce And Blue Ivy Feature In New Lion King Prequel

The Lion King franchise has been a favourite among movie enthusiasts for years. Disney’s upcoming prequel to the 2019 blockbuster live-action Lion King promises to take fans on a thrilling ride. The prequel will focus on Simba, now the king of the Pride Lands, and his efforts to ensure that his cub follows in his paw prints. Meanwhile, the origins of his late father, Mufasa, will be explored.

On April 29th, Disney released the first prequel teaser, offering a great look at Mufasa, Scar, and their home in the African Pride Lands. Beyoncé, who played the character of Nala in the 2019 movie, will reprise her role in the prequel. Joining her is her daughter, Blue Ivy, who will be voicing the character of Kiara, the daughter of King Simba and Queen Nala. Kiara was first introduced in the 1998 sequel to the original animated Lion King, titled The Lion King II: Simba’s Pride.

Oscar-winning Barry Jenkins is directing the prequel, and he promises to bring a new entry into the Lion King cinematic universe. The 2019 live-action CGI adaptation of The Lion King was a massive success, grossing almost $1.7 billion worldwide and becoming one of that year’s most successful movies. The success of the adaptation paved the way for more movies, and now we have a prequel that promises to be equally successful. This will be an emotional journey for all Lion King fans.

Donald Glover will reprise his role as Simba, while Seth Rogen and Billy Eichner will return as Timon and Pumbaa. Thandie Newton, Keith David, Mads Mikkelsen, and Tiffany Boone will join the returning cast. Barry Jenkins recently spoke to People about Beyoncé and how her relationship with Blue Ivy influenced their work together, saying, “[Watching Beyoncé] both on the screen and behind the screen, get to be a mother—and how that affected and impacted for the better the work that we were all doing—was just really awesome.” Jenkins’s words give us a glimpse of how the mother-daughter duo’s relationship has impacted the making of the prequel.

The prequel, Mufasa: The Lion King, will be released on December 20th, and it promises to be an experience you won’t forget.
