Burna Boy, Tyla, And Other African Acts Win At This Year’s AEAUSA Awards

The 9th edition of the African Entertainment USA Awards (AEAUSA), which took place on November 11, 2023, has revealed the winners in each category. The AEAUSA Awards serve as a platform for Africans to come together and showcase their continent as a cohesive, independent unit that is prepared to lead social change.

The 50 categories of the AEAUSA awards honored accomplishments in music, film, sports, and fashion, among other fields. Burna Boy, Davido, DJ Neptune, Ayra Starr, Wizkid, Rema, and even Portable won awards in this year’s edition of the award ceremony. This also happens to be Portable’s first international recognition in music.

With four nominations, Davido headed this year’s list of contenders, followed by Burna Boy, with three. Additionally, Diamond Platnumz, a Tanzanian musician, was shortlisted in three categories.  The initiative, which launched in 2015, honors African achievements and entertainment around the world.

It also seeks to bring Africans in diaspora together under the umbrella of entertainment, especially those in the Caribbean, and to advance an independent, powerful Africa that could give rise to global social transformation.

The selection of nominees this year fully reflected the diversity and depth of African talent in the United States, ranging from up-and-coming artists to well-established icons. The “Upcoming Artist” category at the 2023 AEA Awards was also introduced, and the nominees included a number of up-and-coming stars, including Bonez, Tribe Mark, Grace Idowu, and many more.
