BMI Awards 2023: Burna Boy & Fireboy DML Win Big In London

Nigeria was proud of its Afrobeat musicians Burna Boy and Fireboy DML at the BMI London Awards 2023. Broadcast Music, Inc. honours writers, composers, and music publishers in numerous genres each year with the BMI Film & TV Awards. The BMI London Awards is a prestigious event that recognizes outstanding achievements in the music industry. Burna Boy and Fireboy DML’s recognition at this esteemed ceremony highlights the global impact of Nigerian Afrobeat music and solidifies their position as influential artists in the international music scene.

During the award ceremony, which recognized the achievements of various musicians, the ‘Most Performed Work of the Year’ awards were presented to over 20 songs. Among the recipients were Burna Boy’s upbeat track ‘Last Last’ and Fireboy’s melodious hit ‘Peru’, featuring British singer Ed Sheeran. These artists were recognized for the influence their songs received throughout the year, showcasing their incredible talent and popularity within the music industry.

The prestigious awards ceremony saw Richard Isong, a renowned Nigerian record producer, also known by his stage name P2J, receiving the highly coveted Impact Award for his remarkable contributions to the music industry. Gary Kemp, a celebrated British music icon, was honoured with the Icon Award for his outstanding achievements and influence in the industry. Adding to the excitement, American singer Doja Cat’s captivating afrobeat-themed song “Woman” was named the ‘Song of the Year,’ further cementing her position as a recognized and talented artist and songwriter.
