Coke Studio Africa 2023: Mayorkun Drops ‘Lose Control’

At Coke Studio Africa 2023, Nigerian Afrobeat artist Mayorkun premiered his new song “Lose Control” on the main stage. This stage provides a unique platform that brings together musicians from diverse genres, eras, and locations to create an authentic musical fusion through intriguing mashups.

Coke Studio Africa has previously featured some of the most renowned musicians on the continent, including legends like 2 Baba, Patoranking, Cynthia Morgan, Waje, Kizz Daniel, Falz, and Simi. Mayorkun’s meteoric rise in the music industry is a testament to his talent. He first gained attention with his cover of Davido’s hit single, “Money,” which caught the attention of the original artist. Davido discovered Mayorkun’s talent on Twitter, which led to a flourishing career. In 2016, Mayorkun signed a deal with DMW, Davido’s record label, and released his debut single, “Eleko,” which quickly rose to the top of the charts and cemented his place in the music scene. Mayorkun continued to impress, culminating in the release of his first studio album, “The Mayor of Lagos,” in November 2018.

But Mayorkun was about to transform. He broke off his relationship with DMW in 2021 to pursue his own goals in the music business. With his newfound freedom, he was able to broaden his musical horizons. In October 2021, he released Let Me Know and his second studio album, Back in Office, to commemorate this change. He keeps making waves and reaching a wider audience via the Sony Music West Africa division.
