Davido Speaks On His “Vocal Condition”; Says “My Voice Is Cracked And…”

Outside of the flash and glamour of the celebrity lifestyle, artists work extremely hard to maintain their brand and appearances and always be prepared for anything. It is not always nice when they fall short of expectations because of health or natural problems. Davido has stated this, claiming to frequently experience vocal issues and how bothered and uncomfortable they make him feel, incredibly limiting/affecting his performances.

In an interview with TheNative, a music magazine targeting a Nigerian audience, the superstar acknowledged that he occasionally loses his voice before stage appearances. The performer admits that he had to develop coping mechanisms to prevent the condition from hurting his performance. The singer’s foggy and heavy voice has long been criticized on social media, even though he doesn’t get “too bothered” by the comments. He went on to claim that, at some time, his doctor had advised him to refrain from needless verbal interaction. He stated:

“Because my voice is already husky, when my voice goes it’s so annoying. I like to express myself and I speak a lot, so when I can’t talk, it’s annoying. “It’s so uncomfortable when I have a show and my voice is not back, and I’m impatient so I’ll just be coughing,”

From his debut album, “Omo Baba Olowo(OBO)” (2012), Davido debuted with the single “Back When” in 2011. He gained notoriety after releasing Dami Duro, the album’s second track. In the past ten years, he has released several singles that have topped the charts. This comprises, among others, “Skelewu,” “If,” “Aye,” “Owo Ni Koko,” “Fall,” “Fia,” and “Assurance.” Davido issued two additional albums in 2019 and 2020, “A Good Time” and “A Better Time,” respectively. His fourth album, “Timeless,” which contained 17 tracks, was released in March 2023. The album has gained millions of streams across music platforms making Davido one of Afrobeat’s most prolific acts.
