Drake Loses About $1 Million In A Wager After Israel Adesanya Fails To Win UFC Title Match

Drake’s sizable wager that Israel Adesanya will defeat Sean Strickland in their eagerly awaited UFC title bout has failed. Sean Strickland defeated Israel Adesanya in the early hours of Sunday (September 10) and earned the Middleweight title. Drizzy lost $920,000 on the wager when Israel Adesanya was unable to defeat Sean Strickland.

Prior to the bout, on Friday, September 7, Drake uploaded a picture of his Stake ticket to Instagram, stating that he had wagered $500,000 on Adesanya to defeat Strickland. Since Drake only bet on the former champion to win by knockout, he would still have lost if Adesanya had instead submitted Strickland or triumphed on points.

When Adesanya defeated Alex Pereira in April to win the middleweight title, Drake’s wager paid off earlier in the year, earning him $2.7 million. The 6 God has a history of making huge bets on athletic events. He made a sizable wager on the bout between former UFC fighter Nate Diaz and YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul last month.

Prior to the 10-round cruiserweight fight (catchweight: 185 pounds), the 6 God reportedly placed a $250,000 wager in Diaz’s favor. The “Nice for What” rapper gave Paul his backing earlier this year during his fight with Tommy Fury, but lost out significantly, $400k, when Paul didn’t deliver. A loss Paul facetiously attributed to the rapper.
