Jenni O Challenges Wizkid’s Lyrical Prowess

Nigerian media personality and former Big Brother Titans contestant, Jenni O, has stirred a fresh wave of debate in the Nigerian music industry. In her latest podcast episode, ‘Jenni Speaks’, she asserted that Nigerian superstar, Wizkid, isn’t as lyrically adept as many perceive him to be.

Analyzing his last two albums, ‘Made in Lagos’ and ‘More Love, Less Ego’, she stated that the projects failed to meet the high expectations that fans have of the ‘Joro’ crooner. “Wizkid is not a lyricist. Lyrically, he is not the best. What I’m saying is, look at ‘Made In Lagos’ and ‘More Love, Less Ego’, the albums he just dropped. These projects, I feel, were Wizkid giving us what he wanted to hear,” Jenni O said.

Her candid critique of Wizkid’s lyrical prowess was met with divergent views. Praiz, a fellow singer and guest on her podcast, countered Jenni O’s argument. He contended that there’s nothing inherently wrong with artists evolving their sound, maintaining that Wizkid’s current musical output is largely what the fanbase desires.

This critique by Jenni O, a star of the inaugural BBTitans season, has sparked an online debate, rekindling discussions on the importance of lyrics in the contemporary music scene. It remains to be seen how this conversation will influence the perception of Wizkid’s music and, indeed, the wider Afrobeats genre.
