Joyner Lucas Felt “Scammed”; Talks About Fallout With Atlantic Records

Joyner Lucas, a well-known and accomplished independent rapper, made the decision to sign with Atlantic Records in 2016 with the hope of expanding his reach and taking his career to the next level. Under the label, he released his first project, titled 508-507-2209, which gained him significant success with the hit track “Ultrasound.”

However, his experience with Atlantic Records turned out to be quite different from what he had hoped for. In a recent interview on Math Hoffa’s My Expert Opinion podcast, Joyner opened up about his time with the label and how it fell short of his expectations. He described how the label had promised him the world, including collaborations with some of the industry’s biggest names, such as Cardi B and Ed Sheeran. Despite these promises, Joyner felt like he was scammed behind the scenes. He went on to elaborate on the challenges he faced while working with Atlantic Records, revealing the harsh realities of the music industry. Joyner claimed he did not receive the support he needed to grow his career. He further elaborated that Atlantic Records tried to sell him anything he wanted, but it was all a “f***ed-up scam” in his eyes. Joyner’s experience with the label highlights the challenges that artists face when navigating the music industry and the need for transparency and fairness in record label contracts.

Lucas said,

“They find an artist. They do a little research. They’ll have the artist come in. Everybody at the table will make it seem like they’ve been rocking with this artist for so long, …”
