Kelly Clarkson Reveals Her Ex-Husband Said She Wasn’t “Sexy Enough To Be Judge” On Talent Show ‘The Voice’

Kelly Clarkson, a famous American singer and songwriter, has recently claimed that her ex-husband and former manager, Brandon Blackstock, told her she was not “sexy” enough to act as a judge on the popular TV show The Voice. Clarkson reportedly made this claim before a California labor commissioner in 2023. According to court documents obtained by The Post on Tuesday, Clarkson had expressed to her manager her interest in serving as a judge on the NBC singing competition show. However, instead of helping her achieve her goals, Blackstock allegedly told her that network executives were “looking for a more sex symbol type” and suggested someone like Rihanna.

This claim was made amid a 2023 lawsuit, ultimately leading to a California labor commissioner ordering Blackstock to pay Clarkson $2.6 million for unlawfully booking gigs for his then-spouse. The labor commissioner had ruled that only talent agents, not managers, can secure employment for their clients. Blackstock owes Kelly Clarkson $1,983,155.70 for the ‘The Voice’ coaching role she eventually obtained despite her ex-husband’s alleged objections. Additionally, he owes $208,125 for her collaboration with Norwegian Cruise Lines, $450,000 for her partnership with Wayfair, and $93.30 for her hosting appearances at the Billboard Music Awards.

Kelly Clarkson filed for divorce from Brandon Blackstock in 2020 after nearly seven years of marriage. The couple finally settled their divorce two years later, following a bitter battle over custody of their children and their $10.4 million Montana ranch. In March 2022, Clarkson was granted primary custody of their two children, River and Remington, and the estate. Following the divorce, Kelly Clarkson admitted that her children were “really sad” about the split from their dad. Clarkson’s fans are now rallying behind her in support and urging the entertainment industry to value talent over appearance. This incident has reignited the ongoing debate around the objectification of women in the industry and the need for change.
