Lana Del Rey Speaks On Glastonbury Set Experience And “Being Cut Off” During BST Hyde Park Performance

At her BST Hyde Park performance in London, Lana Del Rey shared her experience of being cut off at Glastonbury. Recently, the singer-songwriter faced criticism after her set at Glastonbury 2023 was briefly halted. She had started her performance 30 minutes late at the Worthy Park venue, causing her set to run past the festival curfew. Consequently, the organizers cut her microphone and turned off the screens halfway through her set.

During her headlining performance on the final night of this year’s BST Hyde Park concert series (July 9), the singer of “Video Games” addressed the tumultuous set and apologized to the crowd. While performing “Candy Necklace,” the 15th song in her 19-song setlist, Del Rey acknowledged the previous performance by saying, “I think this is where I got cut off last time. Sincere apologies.” She also made a lighthearted suggestion to the stage crew, saying, “Don’t do it.” After the apology, she continued with her set, performing songs from her most recent album, “Did You Know That There’s a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd,” as well as live versions of hits like “Diet Mountain Dew,” “Summertime Sadness,” and “Did You Know That There’s a Tunnel Under My Street.”

During the final song of the night, “Video Games,” she mentioned her appearance at Glastonbury. She shared with the audience that even when there was a power outage, it was still worth it. Last month, she tried to sing the song with her fans despite her microphone being turned off and the crew packing up her set. The singer was also a bit late for her BST Hyde Park performance, which was supposed to start at 8:40 p.m. However, she started the show 20 minutes later and ended it on time for her 10:30 p.m. curfew.

During her performance at Glastonbury, she explained that her delayed arrival was because she spent considerable time styling her hair. Her exact words were,

“I was so fucking late that I am about to rush this set today, if they cut power, they cut power,”  “I’m super fucking sorry, my hair takes so long to do. I love you all. Let’s run the set as it’s supposed to go, let’s do it!”

Media sources also described the set as,

“45 minutes of pure, messy, unfiltered melodrama”. “Del Rey’s mic and video screens are suddenly switched off, and she falls to her knees and removes her in-ears. Even for Glastonbury standards, this feels surreal. Watching a revered, generational artist frantically pace along the barrier to carry on singing with her fans, while a team of roadies pack up her entire stage set.”
