Legendary Classical Singer, Dr. Amjad Parvez, Dead At 79

The world of Pakistani music and culture laments the passing of Dr. Amjad Parvez, a legendary personality in the field of classical singing, who battled kidney failure and died at the age of 79.

Born on March 28, 1945, into a well-educated family in Lahore, Parvez’s musical career started in his early years and eventually crossed international borders, winning him the coveted Pride of Performance Award in 2000. Dr. Parvez made a significant and wide-ranging contribution to Pakistani music.

His extensive repertoire and mastery of classical singing were on display during his frequent appearances at Radio Pakistan’s Central Production Unit and throughout his time working with Pakistan Television Corporation (PTV) from its founding.

Through his overseas concerts, Parvez further proved his capacity to cross national and cultural barriers and introduce listeners throughout the world to the core of Pakistani classical music.
