Obi Beats Atiku And Tinubu In Cross River State

Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s (LP) presidential candidate, won easily in Cross River State. Obi defeated fellow candidates from the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, and New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Rabiu Kwankwaso, in the victory, despite being widely regarded as the underdog in the race.

The final results, which were made public early on Tuesday morning at the presidential election collation center in Cross River, showed that Obi received 179,917 votes, surpassing Tinubu’s 130,520, Atiku’s 95,425, and Kwankwaso’s 1,644 votes. Obi has now won four states, including victories in Nasarawa, Enugu, and Lagos.

The victory for the former governor of Anambra State in the Cross River is noteworthy for a variety of reasons. One is that Cross River has historically been a PDP state; since 1999, the party has produced three successive two-term governors, including the current governor, Ben Ayade, who was elected in 2015 and re-elected in 2019.

However after losing Edo State to the PDP and a newly defected Governor Godwin Obaseki, who won the state’s sole 2020 governorship election, the APC gained a critical South-South state thanks to Ayade’s defection in 2021. 1,691,642 people were registered to vote in the presidential election in Cross River. Total votes were 441,576 with 416,968 legitimate votes and 24,608 invalid votes.
