Peter Obi Meets With The Sultan Of Sokoto

Speaking to the Sultan at his palace in Sokoto State, Obi indicated that based on their initial encounter 40 years prior, he could vouch for the religious leader’s ancestry. The meeting allegedly occurred when the LP candidate was a student at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), and the Sultan was a young military officer stationed in Enugu State. With his running mate, Datti Baba-Ahmed, Obi made his first stop at the palace after landing at the Sultan Abubakar III International Airport.

Julius Abure, the national chairman of the Labour Party, and other party leaders like Prof. Pat Utomi, Sen. Nenadi Usman, Aisha Yesufu, and Valentine Ozigbo were with him. By involving the enormous number of young people without jobs in the North in contemporary mechanized farming on the significant number of arable lands, the former governor of Anambra State vowed to end widespread poverty. He continued by saying that the vast fields may produce more national resources than oil.

The Sultan disassociated himself from a story circulating on social media that claimed he had endorsed Obi for president two weeks before the visit. However, Bashir Adefaka, a member of Sultan’s media staff, disregarded the alleged endorsement, claiming that his principle is a diverse leader whose doors are open to all contestants from all parties.

Here are pictures from the courtesy visit.
