Prof. Ayo Olukotun, A Prolific Author, Has Passed Away

Prof. Ayo Olukotun, a renowned political scientist, media expert, and holder of the Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona Professorial Chair in Governance at Olabisi Onabanjo University in Ago Iwoye, Ogun State, has passed away.

According to a statement, the deceased’s works have influenced public conversation and policy over the past three decades. In addition to teaching at the University of Lagos, the Lagos State University, and the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, Olukotun also served as a visiting professor of international relations at the Obafemi Awolowo University in Ile-Ife, Osun State.

At Lead City University in Ibadan, Oyo State, he was also the Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Head of the Political Science Department. The statement went on to say that the late don was a journalist who served as Chairman of the Daily Times Editorial Board. Through his weekly incisive columns, which have appeared in newspapers like Daily Times, The Guardian, Compass, and Punch, as well as several other leading publications, Prof. Olukotun also effusively suggested alternate routes for national redemption.

Bola Tinubu, the presidential candidate for the All Progressives Congress, referred to Prof. Ayo Olukotun’s passing as “sad and shocking.” Olukotun’s contributions to national debates, according to Tinubu, left enduring marks on national development.
