Rosanne Cash Celebrates Three Decades of ‘The Wheel’ with Special Edition Release

Esteemed artist Rosanne Cash unveils a fresh lyric video for the revamped version of “The Truth about You,” a highlight from her pivotal album, The Wheel. This album, which marked a turning point in Cash’s musical journey after relocating to New York, is all about evolution and self-discovery.

Come November 17, fans can look forward to the release of The Wheel 30th Anniversary Deluxe Edition via RumbleStrip Records, a venture co-founded by Cash and her spouse and creative partner, John Leventhal. Leventhal, a multi-Grammy award winner, has collaborated extensively with Cash. This special edition will feature the classic album in its remastered glory, complemented by a live LP capturing Rosanne’s 1993 performance at Austin City Limits and a unique broadcast from the Columbia Records Radio Hour.

For vinyl enthusiasts, The Wheel will be available in multiple formats, including a deluxe 2LP 180-gram version, the original remastered LP, and a 2CD deluxe set. Fans can pre-order now, with signed editions of an exclusive swirl vinyl ready for shipment on November 17. Other retailers will stock the record from December 15.

Starting November 14 in Minneapolis, Rosanne and John will embark on a tour, revisiting the melodies and narratives that shaped The Wheel. Concert tickets are available, and select dates will feature the duo’s appearances at nearby record shops.

The collaboration between Cash and Leventhal on The Wheel marked the inception of their enduring creative alliance. Their combined efforts have birthed seven albums, numerous projects, and countless live shows. Their joint ventures also extend to the theatrical realm with the upcoming Broadway show, Norma Rae.

Rosanne recalls the initial stages of The Wheel, where she presented seven tracks to John, noting their elemental nature. The recording sessions were a melting pot of talent, with contributions from renowned artists like Benmont Tench, Bruce Cockburn, and Mary Chapin Carpenter. The musical journey brought Rosanne and John closer, both professionally and personally.

Critical acclaim for The Wheel was evident, with Rolling Stone’s 4-star review and its inclusion in Entertainment Weekly’s Best of the Year list. Reflecting on the album’s 30th anniversary, Rosanne expresses her joy and the deep connection between the music and love.

RumbleStrip Records has an exciting lineup, including a deep dive into Rosanne’s master recordings spanning 1978-1993. Additionally, 2024 will see the release of Leventhal’s debut solo album.

The special edition of The Wheel is a collaborative effort, produced by John Jackson and Danny Kahn, with mastering by Dan Millice.
