In a recent interview, comedian AY made many people talk when he admitted that his former colleague, Basketmouth, had betrayed him in 2006 over a job that paid N30,000. AY stated in the interview that he attempted to make up with Basketmouth because they are both now wealthy, but Basketmouth always tells him, “I’m a beast; I don’t forgive,” so he will always refuse. The parent of two claimed that Basketmouth has long struggled with an “uncontrollable superiority complex.” Comedian AY also mentioned that despite inviting his wife, he was turned away from Basketmouth’s weddi because of their 30-k feud.

While on his unprovoked tour, some fans did manage to ask him about the beef with AY; in response, Basketmouth says that while he would have liked to discuss it, he wouldn’t because it would have been recorded and leaked. Many people would assume that he has replied. When speaking his opinion, Basketmouth declares that he never wants AY to be close to him again.

It is not a surprise that Nigeria’s burgeoning comedy scene is tainted by competition and cliques. In 2021, Bovi discussed his relationship with AY Makun’s downward spiral with Ebuka Obi-Uchendu. The father of three responded that he believes they grew apart when asked how his friendship with colleague AY Makun soured.

He said.

“It’s not because of anything, but if you have a way you operate and it is not in sync with how I operate, and if that offends my spirit, I’ll stay away. I’m sure some people dislike me, which is cool. Even in the church, there is friction. I think we just grew apart. I like to do my own thing my way, and if your style is different from mine, we grow apart basically, but we are cool. So when I see him, I say what’s up.”
