The 27-year-old chef rose to fame on social media after she set out to beat Indian chef Lata Tondon’s previous record for the longest cooking marathon by a person. Many Nigerians flocked to the cookathon’s location on the third day after it had become a trending topic on social media because of their affection and the buzz generated for Hilda.

The BBNaija star continued, asking another question to “clout chasers and fake souls.” He asked them if they had ever done the same for a friend who cooks merely to support their hustle as they had left their homes and traveled so far to Hilda’s cookathon. And his take has been criticized by celebrities and affected netizens who have reacted negatively to his viewpoint.

The now-popular Nigerian chef and restaurateur by the name of Hilda Effiong Bassey, sometimes referred to as Hilda Baci, has broken the record for the “longest cooking marathon by an individual” and created history in the process.

Baci started the challenge last Thursday at 4 PM, breaking the previous record early on Monday morning with 87 hours and 50 minutes of nonstop cooking. This beats the previous record, set in 2019 by Indian chef Lata Tondon and stood at 87 hours and 45 minutes. At 100 hours and a few minutes, she finally chose to discontinue utilizing her gas, and she holds the record.

In solidarity with the fatigued chef, many Nigerians braved the rain to attend Baci’s exceptional marathon at Amore Gardens in Lekki, Lagos State. Culinary successes are nothing new to Hilda Baci. She won the first Jollof Face-off Competition in 2021, taking home the $5,000 main prize.

As the Guinness World Records team approves Baci’s accomplishment after a comprehensive verification procedure, she will surpass the existing record holder and become the first Nigerian to accomplish this feat.
