Victor Osimhen Takes Home The AIC Footballer Of The Year Award

Victor Osimhen, a forward for the Super Eagles and Napoli, has been awarded the Footballer of the Year in the Serie A league.

The Nigerian-born football star was awarded the Footballer of the Year recently finished 2022–2023 football season by the Italian Footballers’ Association. Osimhen had a significant role in Napoli’s success the previous season, as they won the Serie A championship for the first time in thirty-three years.

Several awards were given out to Victor Osimhen and his teammates during the event on Monday, December 4, 2023. In previous editions, other football heavyweights like Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Cristiano Ronaldo, Gianluigi Buffon, and Rafael Leao had taken home the coveted prize.

Because of his goal scoring prowess—26 goals in 32 Serie A games—Osimhen was chosen as the recipient of the award. Along with the FIFA Best, the CAF award, and the Balon d’Or, he was also nominated for several other prizes for his performance in Nigeria.

His teammates on the Serie team of the year were Mike Maignan, Giovanni Di Lorenzo, Kim Min-jae, Andrea Bastoni, Stanislav Lobotka, Stanislav Hernández, Hakan Çalhanoğlu, Nicolo Barella, Rafael Leão, and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.

He made history by becoming the first African to win the Italian top division’s top scorer award. Since their founding in 1968, the AIC awards have given rise to a number of prestigious titles, such as goal of the season, club of the year, coach of the year, and squad of the year.
