Wyclef Jean Shares Opinion On Drake Vs Kendrick Lamar Battle “For The Culture”

Wyclef Jean, a renowned rapper from the 1990s, recently shared his two cents on the ongoing Drake vs. Kendrick Lamar battle. He believes this is the most outstanding rap battle he has ever witnessed, and every member of the hip-hop community should take a stance. Many rappers, including those from the 1980s, have already given their opinions on the conflict. Some criticize Drake and Lamar for taking their disses too far, while others praise them for pushing the boundaries and raising the bar of rap battles.

Wyclef Jean agrees with Charlamagne Tha God that this is the greatest rap battle ever. He didn’t reveal which artist he thinks is winning, but he praised both sides and was okay with them hitting below the belt with their disses. Wyclef shared his thoughts on X (formerly Twitter), providing some context as someone who grew up with battle rap being part of the culture in New Jersey and Brooklyn.

The Fugees frontman then laid out his ground rules for a rap battle. According to him, the most crucial rule is no rules. He believes that in proper battle rap form, anything goes. He even endorsed multiple responses if it meant getting the upper hand in a battle. “The key is to be ready with a rebuttal,” he added. “Which means you get to respond to every Diss track as it comes out. You get to add facts to any lies your opponent has cast on you.

Wyclef Jean, known for his genre fusions, also has some experience with rap battles. He had a feud with LL Cool J in 1998, which they eventually resolved at Big Pun’s funeral two years later. He also had some tension with Fugees members Lauryn Hill and Pras, and the former even released a Grammy-winning diss track about him called “Lost Ones.” However, the group has since reconciled and even performed together on stage.
