Tamia Monique Carter was raised in Mobile, Alabama, where she was born on January 9, 2000. At the age of nine, she composed her first song, and at the age of eleven, she started rapping. At the age of fourteen, she disbanded the rap group Pink Mafia. She was motivated and started penning brief lyrics that developed into songs after seeing a Nicki Minaj-themed episode of BET’s music video countdown show 106 & Park. She was raised by Jill Scott, Erykah Badu, and Anthony Hamilton.
