Born November 2, 1974, Cornell Iral Haynes Jr. is an American rapper and vocalist better known by his stage name Nelly. He was born and raised in St. Louis, where he started his musical career in 1993 with the Southern hip hop group St. Lunatics. In 1999, he signed with Universal Records. With the release of his commercial debut album Country Grammar in 2000, Nelly launched his solo career.

With over 8.4 million copies sold in the US, the album became Nelly’s best-selling record to date and peaked at number one on the Billboard 200 chart. Three Grammy Awards and nine Billboard Music Awards are among the many honors Nelly has received over the course of his career.
