Shakira Biography
Shakira, full name Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll, was a Colombian recording artist who found success in both Spanish- and English-speaking markets by the early 2000s. She was born in Barranquilla, Colombia, on February 2, 1977. Shakira, whose parents were natives of Colombia and Lebanon, began belly dancing at a young age. By the time she was 10, she had started writing songs and competing in talent shows.
In 1990, Shakira was given a chance to perform in front of a Sony Corp. executive thanks to a local theatre producer, and she subsequently received a record deal. However, the sales of her first two albums, Magia (1991) and Peligro (1993) were only average at best. Shakira took a hiatus from music production to star in the Latino serial opera El oasis. Still, she returned to recording with Pies descalzos and did so in a surprising way (1995). “Estoy here,” “Pienso en ti,” and “Un poco de amor” are just a few of the album’s highlights.
Shakira’s “Dónde están los ladrones?” album from 1998 featured a number of catchy singles. Notably, she took up the prizes for best rock vocal performance (“Octavo da”) and best female pop vocal performance (“Ojos as”). She subsequently concentrated her efforts on getting noticed in the American market. She launched her debut English-language album, Laundry Service, that same year and in 2001, her album MTV Unplugged (2000) received the Grammy Award for the best Latin music album.
With the June release of Fijación oral, vol. 1 in Spanish and the November release of Oral Fixation, vol. 2 in English, Shakira maintained her crossover success in 2005. Her single “Hips Don’t Lie” (with Wyclef Jean) topped charts worldwide in 2006, and both of her albums made their American debuts in the top five.

Spanish professional footballer Gerard Piqué Bernabeu, born February 2 1987, competes for La Liga team Barcelona as a center defender. He is regarded as one of his generation’s top defenders. Piqué, formerly one of La Masia’s most promising students, enrolled in the Manchester United academy in 2004.
Under Pep Guardiola’s direction, he returned to Barcelona in 2008, where he helped the team win trebles in 2008–09 and 2014–15. He is one of only four players—the others being Marcel Desailly, Paulo Sousa, and Samuel Eto’o—to have won the UEFA Champions League two years in a row with different teams.
