Afenifere Hails Tinubu’s Peace Moves To PDP Chieftain Bode George

Afenifere, a pan-Yoruba sociopolitical group, has applauded the recent action taken by certain Yoruba elders to amicably separate Bode George, a leader of the Peoples Democratic Party, and Bola Tinubu, the president-elect, by paying the former a visit.

It was said that other Yoruba elders paid George a visit in Lagos, including retired judge Isola Olorunmibe and the head of the governance advisory council in Lagos State, Tajudeen Olusi. The PDP leader said that the group had come to ask for his support for the President-elect and to apologize to him for previous disagreements.

Abagun Kole Omololu, Afenifere’s organizing secretary, said the organization was pleased with the development when he talked with our correspondent in Akure. Omololu praised and justified the visit to George, saying it promoted solidarity among the sons and daughters of the Yoruba people.

No matter one’s political views, he claims that a unified Yoruba land will make a significant difference “in achieving the desired goal of a true federation, devolution of power, state police, and fiscal federalism.”

He said,

“We in Afenifere are very delighted about the visit of the elders in the land to one of the elders in the Yoruba land (Chief George,  the Atona of the Source). The elders saw it as an aberration for two prominent Yoruba sons to be having a misunderstanding while the elders in the land are folding their arms, watching, and doing nothing. So, we want to commend the efforts of these Yoruba leaders and elders who deemed it fit to pay Chief George a visit on this matter, and we certainly hope that the laudable visit would be fruitful and beneficial to the entire Yoruba land.”

The President-Elect will be sworn into office on 29 May 2023 and begin another era and tenure for the ruling party, the APC.
