A Building In Abuja Has Collapsed

At least one person has been confirmed dead and 21 others have been rescued after a two-story building under construction in Abuja, Nigeria, collapsed on Thursday. Many more people are still trapped in the rubble.

Emergency responders, security personnel, and multiple agencies, including the Federal Capital Territory Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), are on the scene working to rescue more victims.

The survivors have been taken to nearby hospitals for treatment. The cause of the collapse is still unknown, but witnesses say many of the victims were construction workers at the site. The Federal Housing Authority is being questioned for allegedly allocating green areas for commercial ventures.

An investigation will be conducted to determine the remote and immediate causes of the incident. The developer of the building was found to have flouted approval plans by constructing an extra floor.
