Athletics Integrity Unit Release Official Statement On Tobi Amusan’s Doping Charges
Tobi Amusan, the current world record holder and champion in the 100-meter hurdles, has been the subject of an official statement from the Athletes Integrity Unit (AIU). The AIU has fully supported Tobi Amusan and her accomplishments in the sport. They have also commended her as a role model to aspiring athletes worldwide.
On Thursday, August 17, 2023, the organization published a statement on its official website that Tobi Amusan had been absolved of the charge brought against her. The body claims that while unhappy with the result, they will analyze the ruling before appealing to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
“A panel of the Disciplinary Tribunal, by majority decision, has today found that Tobi Amusan has not committed an Anti-Doping Rule Violation (ADRV) of three Whereabouts Failures within a 12-month period. AIU Head Brett Clothier has indicated the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) is disappointed by this decision and will review the reasoning in detail before deciding whether to exercise its right of appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) within the applicable deadline. The decision is currently confidential but will be published in due course. Amusan’s provisional suspension has now been lifted with immediate effect”.
The 26-year-old was previously accused of three whereabouts failures or missing three out-of-competition tests during a 12-month period, which is considered an anti-doping regulation violation. Amusan can now defend her title at the Diamond League, Commonwealth Games, African Championships, and African Games. Her previous whereabouts failures resulted in a provisional suspension, but after a thorough investigation, it was determined that extenuating circumstances were beyond her control. As a result, she has been cleared of any wrongdoing and can now focus on her upcoming competitions with a renewed sense of determination.
