Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s Election Victory Upheld By Tribunal

Multiple Petitions Dismissed In Favor Of The Incumbent Governor

the Lagos State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal has upheld the election of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu. This decision comes after the tribunal meticulously reviewed multiple petitions challenging the governor’s victory in the recent elections.

Justice Mikhail Abdullahi, who presided over the tribunal, played a pivotal role in this affirmation. The petitions under scrutiny were from the governorship candidates of the Labour Party, LP, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, and the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Olajide Adediran. Both candidates had raised concerns and contested the outcome of the governorship election in the state.

However, after thorough examination, the tribunal, led by Justice Abdullahi, dismissed both petitions. This decision reinforces the legitimacy of Sanwo-Olu’s election and his position as the Governor of Lagos State.

Furthermore, the tribunal emphasized the inseparability of the governorship ticket of Babajide Sanwo-Olu and his deputy, Obafemi Hamzat. This was in response to an objection raised regarding the individual candidacy of the deputy governor. The tribunal clarified that a deputy governor and governor are not separate candidates and are not required to pay separate security deposits.

In another significant aspect of the tribunal’s proceedings, the question arose whether a person who lost an election could be joined as a respondent in an election petition. This was in reference to the inclusion of the Labour Party candidate, Rhodes-Vivour, as a respondent in the petition by Jandor. The tribunal’s stance on this matter further solidified the position of Sanwo-Olu and his deputy.

The affirmation of Sanwo-Olu’s election by the tribunal has been received with mixed reactions from various quarters. While supporters of the governor view this as a validation of the people’s mandate, opponents are likely to continue their quest for legal redress.

With this decision, the political landscape of Lagos State is set for stability under the leadership of Governor Sanwo-Olu. The governor, having received the tribunal’s endorsement, is expected to focus on governance and the implementation of his administration’s policies for the betterment of Lagos State and its residents.
