Beyoncé Responds To Backlash Over Country Music; Shares ‘Cowboy Carter’ Album Artwork

Beyoncé has responded to criticism of her foray into country music and unveiled the official album artwork for “Cowboy Carter.” On March 12, the pop star revealed the title of her next eighth studio album, “Cowboy Carter,” on her official website. A picture of a horse saddle with the words “Cowboy Carter” printed on a red, white, and blue sash could be seen on the website’s home page. For a long time, people thought that the saddle picture was the official record cover. However, Beyoncé surprised fans by sharing the actual album artwork on her social media platforms, featuring a close-up shot of her wearing a cowboy hat and boots. The response to her country music venture has been mixed, with some fans excited about the new sound and others expressing scepticism.

Beyoncé shared the exact album artwork on her official Instagram account. Seated on a white horse, the singer can be seen sporting a red, white, and blue leather costume, a white cowboy hat, a platinum blonde hairstyle, an American flag, and a “Country Carter” sash. The artwork was made public to commemorate the ten days leading up to the album’s release on March 29. The singer added that she hoped listeners could sense the “heart, soul, love, and passion” she put into the record. She also disclosed “a few surprises on the album.” The “Country Carter” album is Beyoncé’s first venture into country music, a slight departure from her usual R&B and pop sound, even though she says it is not a “Country album.” Fans eagerly anticipate the album’s release to see how the iconic singer will tackle this new genre.

“This album has been over five years in the making. It was born out of an experience that I had years ago where I did not feel welcomed…and it was very clear that I wasn’t. But, because of that experience, I did a deeper dive into the history of Country music and studied our rich musical archive. It feels good to see how music can unite so many people around the world, while also amplifying the voices of some of the people who have dedicated so much of their lives educating on our musical history,…”

Pre-ordering and pre-saving the album are both possible. Two limited-edition CDs with alternate cover photographs showing half of her face on display are also available, as are limited-edition coloured vinyl pressings in red, white, blue, and black—theoretically, the record functions as the second part of a trio of “Renaissance” albums. Texas Hold ‘Em and 16 Carriages, two of her most recent singles, will be included on the album. While promoting her eighth album, set to drop this month, Beyoncé debuted the two tracks during this year’s NFL Super Bowl LVIII. “Texas Hold’ Em” made her the first black woman to reach the top of the US country chart.
