In news that will have many eyes rolling, Nigerian musician Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu, popularly known as Burna Boy, recently shared an interesting decision he made. He revealed that he turned down a $5 million (over N4 billion) offer to perform in Dubai, and his reason for this move may have surprised some, but it shows that Burna Boy values his principles over financial gain.
The Grammy Award winner gave a freestyle performance during a recent band practice, as seen in the video making the rounds on social media. Burna Boy said during his freestyling that he declined the offer since it is against Emirati law to smoke (marijuana) “grass” in Dubai. He claimed that because he avoided circumstances in which he would not be able to smoke his “grass” in tranquillity, the “$5m became meaningless” to him. Burna’s love for cannabis is not new knowledge, however, as Ed Sheeran recently came out to make a few comments that hinted at the “Last Last” crooner’s love for the herb.
During his freestyle, the singer also threw shades at Brymo. He asked his fans to work hard so they wouldn’t “fall off” like Brymo did while vibing to the rhythm. Brymo, on his part, had recently taken to his social media to incite controversial conversations involving his music and his relationship with many of Nigeria’s Afrobeat stars. While accusing Davido and Burna Boy of cultism, he also accused Burna of copyright infringement.
