Burna Boy’s “African Giant” Achieves Platinum Status In France

“African Giant” by Burna Boy is the first Nigerian album to receive a platinum certification in France. Rap fans searching for Kanye West’s new album of the same name discovered Burna Boy’s hit “YE,” which propelled him to unprecedented international popularity in 2018.

Burna Boy’s career is rapidly expanding abroad, and in 2019 he published his fourth album, “African Giant,” which changed the direction of African music globally. The album achieved great success both domestically and abroad, helped along by the hit singles “On The Low,” “Gbona,” “Dangote,” “Killing Dem,” and “Anybody.”

Five years after its release, “African Giant” has sold over 100,000 copies in France, leading SNEP to designate the song platinum. The popularity of “On The Low” and “Gbona,” which have received platinum certifications in France, is largely responsible for the certification.

“African Giant,” which previously shared the SNEP gold record with Rema’s debut album “Raves & Roses,” is now the only album from Nigeria to be certified platinum. In 2023, Burna Boy’s popular song “Last Last” was certified diamond by SNEP, demonstrating his continued global success.

Burna Boy, who is now on tour, sold out the Scotiabank Arena for two nights on February 24 and 25, 2024, a milestone never accomplished by an African musician at a facility of such size and capacity in Canada.
