Ice Cube Doesn’t Like Drake And Kendrick Lamar Battle

Ice Cube, the legendary rapper, is well-known for his sharp lyrics and ability to take on other rappers. He has a reputation for penning diss tracks that have become classics in hip-hop history. Some of his most famous tracks include “No Vaseline,” where he took on N.W.A. single-handedly, “Westside Slaughterhouse,” where he dissed common and conscious hip-hop, and “F**k tha Police,” which is considered the definitive police diss track.

Given his past, one might expect him to take sides in the current battle between Drake and Kendrick Lamar, but he refused to do so in a recent interview on Canada’s E-Talk. He even admitted that he hasn’t enjoyed watching the beef. When asked about his stance on rappers beefing, Ice Cube cited the global reach of hip-hop music and how beef can potentially humiliate a rapper in front of the world. He believes that some people can’t have that kind of humiliation. He also talked about the violence that can arise from rap battles and shared that he saw it firsthand during the 1990s. He even made peace with Common in 1997 to avoid any potential violence.

Despite his mature attitude toward the current battle, Ice Cube understands why Drake and Lamar are hashing their problems out on record. He added that it’s part of the game and that he respects both artists. He has praised Drake in the past but holds Lamar in higher regard. He believes Lamar has been carrying the West Coast since the 2010s and praised him for quoting him on the album Good Kid, m.A.A.d. City. Ice Cube thinks that true talent should be rewarded, whether deep music grips its soul or booty-shaking music.
