Cyndi Lauper’s Son Arrested And Charged With Firearm Possession

Declyn Lauper, the son of the legendary singer Cyndi Lauper, was arrested and charged with reportedly carrying a loaded weapon in New York City without authorization. He was later freed from jail, though.

The only child of the singer and her husband David Thornton, was brought into police custody shortly after a 24-year-old man was shot on Wednesday night in Harlem on W. 112th St. near Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Blvd., according to the New York Daily News.

Declyn was taken into custody close to the scene following the incident, according to the criminal complaint that was submitted to Manhattan Criminal Court and obtained by the New York Daily News. It was said that he had a fanny pack with a loaded Glock magazine holding seven rounds.

Prosecutors said that Declyn and another man took an Uber from Queens to 135th West 112th St. shortly before the incident happened, according to the New York Post. Omar Lewin was the victim, according to ABC News, who also mentioned that he was accused of illegally possessing a weapon.

Lewin was brought to the Mount Sinai Morningside hospital, where, according to New York Daily News, his status was stated to be stable.  Declyn’s bail was set by a judge at $20,000 in cash after his arrest, according to NYC’s ABC 7.
