Dino Melaye On Why PDP Will Win The Upcoming Election

The Chief Spokesperson of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential Campaign Organization, Senator Dino Melaye, has criticized the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, ahead of the February 25th elections in Nigeria.

In a statement, Melaye claimed that the APC is not united or coordinated to serve the interests of the Nigerian people, and that the party is headed for failure. He also said that Tinubu’s recent statements, along with those of Kaduna State governor Nasir el-Rufai, indicating that the leadership of the APC is working against them, only serve to amplify the tones of defeat.

Melaye went on to say that the PDP is confident of victory and is working round the clock to remind Nigerians of the good days under the PDP and assure them of a better future if the party returns to power.

He added that the PDP’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, is the front-runner and the preferred choice, even among competing parties, and that he will be able to unite the country and restore progress.

Regarding President Buhari’s refusal to support Tinubu, Melaye suggested that the president may want to spare the country from being handed over to someone who has “wilfully amputated himself”. He added that the drama playing out within the APC shows that the mainstream of the party is neither proud nor pleased with its presidential candidate, and that the APC is overwhelmed by public disenchantment, poor campaign management, internal dissent, and multiple contradictions.

Senator Melaye said that the APC has already conceded victory to the PDP, due to the various challenges and problems facing the party. He said that the APC has always been a “marriage of convenience” and is now suffering from “maturation lag”. Either way, he said, it is a hopeless case.

The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) has fined Continental Broadcasting Services Limited (TVC) and Arise TV for airing “hate speech and inflammatory comments” and violating Nigeria’s broadcasting code during the general election.

NBC has asked TVC to pay a fine of NGN 2 million within two weeks for its “consistent breach” of the code. The commission also fined Arise TV for airing the Peoples Democratic Party’s campaign rally that contained unfair mockery of the All Progressives Congress candidate.

The NBC noted that TVC aired derogatory comments that have become a “house style.” The letter from the NBC Director-General references media briefings by Festus Keyamo, a spokesperson for the APC, and comments by Bola Tinubu, the APC presidential candidate, as examples of the hate speech and inflammatory comments that were aired.
