A 20-foot loaded container reportedly collapsed on a commercial bus in the Ojuelegba neighborhood of Lagos State, southwest Nigeria, crushing less than nine passengers to death.

On Sunday, a truck struck a commercial bus in Ojuelegba, inside Fadeyi, Lagos State, killing eight people. Officials from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority were spotted attempting to save the victims. The agency claimed that efforts were being undertaken to protect the victims.

It was discovered that the truck lost control and plunged over the side of the Ojuelegba Bridge on Sunday while the commercial bus was picking up passengers at the bus stop nearby.

According to a later statement from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), rescue and evacuation activities are still being carried out at the accident scene. Although the occurrence was confirmed in a report by Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, Director-General of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), it was stated that one adult female was saved alive.

“A bus has been struck by a truck carrying containers at Ojuelegba, inside Fadeyi. According to Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, the agency’s permanent secretary, efforts are currently being undertaken to rescue and evacuate people. However, we now have a bottleneck of traffic at Alaka due to the fallen container’s recovery efforts, which are still underway even though it has been removed from the bus and placed on the ground.

If you are not caught up or stuck in traffic, please be patient or find another route, he suggested.

According to a witness, the truck driver tried to prevent the bus from passing him. Only one of the nine passengers involved was reportedly saved alive.”The final casualty count is nine fatalities comprising four adult males, three adult females, one boy child, one girl child, and one adult female rescued alive.
