DJ Maphorisa Offers Advise To Nigerian DJs Playing Amapiano

DJ Maphorisa, a South African DJ and record producer, voiced his worries over Nigerian DJs speeding their sets when playing Amapiano songs at clubs.

The prominent DJ went on a tirade on an Instagram live session, pleading with the DJs to slow down the song tempos because it wasn’t necessary for them to be faster. He has a reputation for being very outspoken when it comes to music production. In a video that was uploaded to X (previously Twitter), DJ Maphorisa was seen appealing with Nigerian DJs.

Many X users took offense at this statement, claiming that it implied he had little interest in the success of up-and-coming musicians. Also, in his most recent social media tirade, he claimed that if an artist recorded a song using his equipment, the song belonged to him.

Although the popularity of amapiano has skyrocketed throughout Africa and beyond, there are now variations, with some Nigerian producers adding faster tempos to their renditions. They are encouraged to stick closer to the roots of the genre by Maphorisa’s remarks, which are a welcome idea.

It’s unclear if Nigerian producers would respond to Maphorisa’s request. Nevertheless, his impact cannot be denied, and his remarks will undoubtedly enhance the depth of Amapiano’s international voyage.
