Ed Sheeran Penned 7 Songs In 4 Hours Following His Wife’s Cancer Diagnosis

After learning about Cherry Seaborn’s cancer diagnosis, Ed Sheeran wrote seven songs in four hours. The couple, who have been together since they were just 11 years old, married in 2015 and lived happily ever after for four years. That is until Cherry was diagnosed with a tumor in February 2022 and needed immediate medical attention.

The devastating diagnosis came at the same time that Ed’s close friend Jamal Edwards passed away and while he was engaged in a protracted legal dispute over his hit song Shape of You. In addition, she was six months pregnant with the couple’s second child. Cherry recalled that her husband “went down into ahead of the launch basement” after learning of her diagnosis and quickly wrote a set of songs as he tried to comprehend news and maintain his emotions.

Cherry was speaking in the trailer for Ed’s upcoming documentary, The Sum of It All, which will be released exclusively on Disney+ on Wednesday, May 3, of the launch of his new album, Subtract, on Friday, May 5. Sheeran has previously stated that many of the songs on his upcoming album ‘-‘ (Subtract), set to be released on May 5, is inspired by the “unbreakable” bond he developed with Seaborn a result of her illness.
