Kali Uchis’ “Orquideas” Becomes Her First No. 1 On The Top Album Sales Chart

On January 27, Kali Uchis achieves her first No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Album Sales chart, as Orquídeas tops the list with her greatest sales week ever—31,000 copies were sold in the U.S. in the week that ended on January 18—as reported by Luminate.

Twenty thousand of that total came from vinyl purchases; this was the biggest week for a Spanish-language vinyl album since Luminate started keeping track of sales back in 1991. Along with starting at No. 1 on Vinyl Albums, No. 1 on Top Latin Albums (her first leader there), and a career-high No. 2 on the Billboard 200, the album also debuts at these rankings.

Out of the 31,000 copies of Orquídeas that were sold, 30,000 were sold physically (20,000 on vinyl, 10,000 on CD, and a small amount on cassette), and 1,000 were sold digitally as download albums. The album’s availability in seven vinyl variations and four CD editions—including special editions offered only through independent record shops, Target, Urban Outfitters, and the artist’s website—helped to boost sales.

The best-selling albums of the week are ranked by Billboard’s Top Album Sales list using just conventional album sales data. The chart’s history began on May 25, 1991, the first week that Billboard started compiling charts using electronically tracked piece count data from SoundScan, which is currently Luminate.
