Margot Robbie Finally Reacts To ‘Barbie’ Oscar Snubs

During a SAG-AFTRA panel, Margot Robbie, the star of “Barbie,” shared her thoughts on the Oscar snubs that the movie received. Despite not addressing her snub for Best Actress, Robbie went to bat for her director, Greta Gerwig, and expressed her excitement for the eight nominations that the movie received. While she acknowledged the disappointment felt by fans, she also noted that she was “beyond ecstatic” about the movie’s recognition.

There was great indignation at Margot and Greta’s omission from the impressive Oscar nomination list. Many believed that Margot, who bore the weight of the entire movie and was the central character, should have been included in the running order, even though Ryan Gosling and America Ferrera received nominations. Not only for herself, Margot seemed unhappy with the state of affairs; she shared the popular opinion that the movie’s lead character, “Barbie,” ought to receive more credit.

Margot mentioned on this topic,

“Obviously, I think Greta should be nominated as a director, because what she did is a once-in-a-career, once-in-a-lifetime thing, what she pulled off, it really is. But it’s been an incredible year for all the films.”

“I just suspect it’s bigger than us. It’s bigger than this movie, it’s bigger than our industry.” Unclear what exactly she means by that … sounds like she’s referring to politics within the Academy, though.

“We set out to do something that would shift culture, affect culture, just make some sort of impact. And it’s already done that, and some, way more than we ever dreamed it would. And that is truly the biggest reward that could come out of all of this.”
