Mayorkun Reveals Olamide Inspiration In His Songwriting

Nigerian musician Adewale Mayowa Emmanuel, better known by his stage name Mayorkun, has disclosed that renowned rapper and singer Olamide is an inspiration to him. The “Love… For Free” singer recently said, while freestyling on Snapchat, that Olamide inspired the way he writes his songs. Acknowledging the YBNL boss’s impact on his songwriting, the former DMW signee said Baddo helped him realize that outstanding songwriting will not always be in English.

“Na Baddo [Olamide] make me know say pen game no be by English o! IYKVK.”

Mayorkun has always been made for the spotlights. After releasing a cover rendition of Davido’s “The Money” song in 2016, which featured Olamide, “Of Lagos” gained notoriety nationwide. His popularity soared immediately after Davido recruited him to his record label, DMW, after which he released his breakthrough track, “Eleko.”

After winning the highly sought-after Next Rated category at The Headies two years later, his fame was cemented. Mayorkun broke off his relationship with DMW, Davido Music Worldwide, in 2021 and has since then continued to churn out marvelous tunes and hits for the culture.
