Mohbad’s Wife Testifies; Speaks On Events Leading To Husband’s Death

The widow of singer IleriOluwa Aloba, also known as Mohbad, Omowunmi Aloba, stated at the Coroner Inquest on Tuesday that Mohbad had “passed away” long before he was officially pronounced dead because of the psychological trauma, past bullying incidents, and the effect the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency arrest had on his mental and general health.

According to Mohbad’s widow’s testimony, he passed away in the afternoon of Tuesday, September 12, 2023, in his room. Wunmi said that just before he passed away, he wasn’t feeling too well and had taken a shower. He asked to turn on his room’s air conditioning, but it wasn’t functioning, and he was moved to his son’s room. Omowunmi said she was in the kitchen during this and that when she walked out, she heard Mohbad instructing the nurse to take out the syringe and witnessed the nurse injecting him. She went on to tell the coroner that they had to take him right away to the hospital at that moment, as he was beginning to look pale. She added that the driver noticed his hands were already cold on the way.

“Immediately I called a bike (motorcycle), OG, his friend, and Mohbad entered the bike, then I took another bike and went straight to the hospital. It was the doctor, nurses, the Disc Jokey, and Mohbad ‘s brother that were inside the room while I was outside, when they told me that he was dead, I said it was not possible because I still spoke to him 20 minutes ago and he said after his injection, he would take his son for five months photo shoot,”

She added that on Monday, September 11, 2023, before his passing, they had gone to a show; perhaps ten of them were in the group. The singer’s widow went on to say that she and their child had been waiting for Mohbad in the car while he was performing. Mohbad expressed his exhaustion and desire to return home after his performance but was told to wait an hour while other artists finished their performances. Regarding the altercation in the vehicle, she said that Mohbad got into a conflict with his younger sibling when his friend Owodunni Ibrahim, popularly known as Prime Boy, decided to support his brother, resulting in a fight. She added,

“Prime Boy said he knew what he would have done, but Mohbad told Prime Boy that it was because they were outside and that if they were at home, he would have fought his brother. Prime Boy and Mohbad started fighting, and I went to get his workers to come and separate them, and by the time I came back, I met that people had separated them already.

“During the fight, Mohbad sustained a minor injury at his elbow when he hit the window of the car. The nurse who injected Mohbad has been treating him for two years. The nurse injected Mohbad on his shoulder. After the February 22, 2022, NDLEA incident, Mohbad became fearful and refused to go to the hospital because his head was hit with a gun by NDLEA. I was beaten and pushed inside the gutter because I confronted and questioned the NDLEA why they harassed my husband. He was given substance by NDLEA. Ever since then, he has not been himself.”

Also, she informed the coroner that following the NDLEA arrest and how he was treated in their custody, he developed paranoia and suffered from memory loss, even forgetting his phone password. People began claiming that he was “crazy” and had become depressed. She said that even when he died, she didn’t get to know anything about his burial place or even the morgue.

Wunmi reported receiving threats, and as a result, she always wears a face mask when she goes outside. She also revealed the plans he had for his son and that his detractors were planning to abduct his son from her. Netizens reacted to the latest news, with many in solidarity with Wunmi seeking justice for Mohbad, while others pointed at other perspectives on the case.

She said,

“Mohbad wanted to fly his son to Canad. That was why he got a visa because he didn’t want his son Liam to clock one in Nigeria.”

Mohbad’s wife said he had always wanted his child to be given birth in Canada, but because they were not financially buoyant, he begged her to allow him to fly the child, to which she agreed.
