The first-ever Nigerian to perform at the annual Ballon d’Or ceremony, which takes place in France at the conclusion of each football season, is Rema, one of the the reigning young stars on the Nigerian Afrobeat scene. Rema gave the star-studded audience an exceptional performance which was received with thunderous cheers, setting social media on fire with the buzz.

Star footballers like Robert Lewandowski, Eden Hazard, Kylian Mbappe, Lionel Messi, and others applauded the Afrobeat artist who is now blowing up on a global scale. The official Ballon d’Or page in X (formerly Twitter) also shared the complete footage of Remy boy’s outstanding performance.

However, he will not be the first to perform at major international events. Davido perfomed at the World Cup, Burna Boy at the UEFA Champions League, and Tiwa Savage at the crowning of King Charles II, which is a beautiful thing for the culture and the new Afrobeat wave currently sweeping across the world.

This is the 67th Ballon d’Or award ceremony, and Argentina football star, and former Barcelona, PSG, and currently Inter Miami footballer, Lionel Messi bagged a record 8th Ballon d’Or award, setting the record for the highest winner, surpassing fellow football stars such as Erling Haaland of Manchester City and Kylian Mbappe of PSG.
